Is this guy on the level, threatening America? It's tantamount to a three year-old kid kicking me in the shins. At first you ignore it, but after a while it becomes positively annoying. Detente between the East and the West hit an all time low back in '63 with the Cuban crisis, but this is such a tin pot nation, at first I laughed, until I realised the true implications. The trouble is, little people have a bad habit of getting big on the backs of people not taking the situation seriously. Look at Hitler, just a straight corporal. Thank God Idi Amin didn't have access to nuclear warheads - he would loved to have gone out in a blaze of glory, starting WW3. It's no good talking about sanctions and embargoes being taken out. Kennedy was taken out - this guy's next on the list unless he tows the line.

They've not got the technology for a nucler warhead for a long range missile.... Yet!
From what I read, they've got enough nuclear material for some crude bombs but not the delivery system.

The operative word, is, as you've stressed YET! Thus said I wouldn't like to be living in South Korea or Japan for that matter. A five K bomb, although small by modern day standards can still raze a city and do an enormous amount of damage. And remember, we are a lot closer than Uncle Sam! :_|

IMHO it ain't a case of what North Korea can do with their own technology, it's more a case of which nations will side with them if anything kicks off.

But we see similar ideologies gaining ground around the World. Their idea is that they MUST fight their perceived "enemy" any way they can and if that means the end of everything, so be it.

Yeah. Thank goodness we don't have a party like that in the UK.
Only a fruit-loop would embark on policies such as increasing military spending to levels of stupidity, build shedloads of prisons, withdraw from hard-fought human rights treaties, ban mainstream films, advocate a nationalist "monoculture", politically isolate the nation from surrounding countries, and start to build an military arsenal of Strangelovian proportions.
Vote UKIP!

Like OP said, I agree it is worrying, they have done this before not only the threats but actual action being taken. US don't have the worries that others will and do have.
There is a bit of a pattern here and again like most little bullies they will no doubt pick on the weaker nearer link like S Korea...this did happen in 2010....
I wonder who if anyone is pulling this little upstarts strings...I'm not sure why but I just get that impression.
Also it is a worry when others aid, and jump on the bandwagon, for their own reasons, people like this who offer help or encourage them to 'kick off' so to speak.
Our planet needs help, not more destruction.

Let's not forget that the last Korean war was started by South Korea so it's North Korea's turn to kick off, really.

North Korea only exists as a sovereign state because China allowed them to do so.
NK acted as a buffer state between China and the US backed states of South Korea and Japan. The twentieth century history of that area has brought us to this situation where it is now difficult for China and almost impossible for the US to do anything to curtail the ambitions of the NK leadership.
Looked at from their point of view you can understand why they are so keen to have a nuclear capability - without it their future as an independent country looks very doubtful.

Would they carry out the threat?

#16,
The "last" Korean war? Which one was that?
What's called The Korean War was started when North Korea invaded the South in 1950?
