Nick, being an abuser is never acceptable under any circumstances. However much "good" he may have done in other areas of his life, it doesn't make up for what he did to these young girls. He took advantage of the impressionable and vulnerable in a time when the majority of 14 year old girls. In my book his actions negate any good that he may have done because it has been going on for many many years and he chose to conceal it by threatening legal action if anyone tried to do anything about it. It's right that it should be exposed regardless that he is now dead. Yes, of course it's upsetting for his family but I'm sure Saville didn't think of them when he was abusing these girls. Sadly he probably thought he was invincible.
Paeodophilia incest and rape are the last bastions of the totally unacceptable in our western society.
Esther Rantzen started Childline so that abused children - sexually mentally and physically - could unburden themselves and seek help. One of the major problems is overcoming the "guilt" that these children feel as a consequence of what was done to them because they feel they "deserved" it. That's a very strong burden for children for not either confronting their abuser or telling another adult about their situation. Childline gives them an escape route and thank goodness it does.
