It seems to have become the norm in newpapers (and online news) to call dogs "pooches". Everywhere I look to read about a dog it's referred to as a "pooch".
Do you call dogs pooches? Do you know anyone that does?
A grown up dog is..... a dog. A young dog is a puppy (or pup for short).
Where has this word "pooch" come from? Anyone know?

I can't say I've heard anyone I know call their dogs pooches but I've seen it an odd time in newspaper articles.
As to where it's come from I have no idea.

I don't know anyone who calls their dog a pooch, but it seems the trend on social media these days to call a dog "doggo" and a puppy "puppo" both which I find very annoying and juvenile when it's supposedly intelligent adults using these words.

Yes, I run through several newpapers (online) and all of them carry stories containing the word. Needless to say they also carry the self-same stories, so whoever formulates them either sends them to all the newspapers or the papers copy each other.

To me, a dog is an unsellable book. Also known as a "Trap One" after greyhound racing.

I hear' pupper ' a lot but not 'pooch'. Still irritating. Mine must be psychic, they just arrived at my knee requesting a walk...dogs that is, not puppers or pooches 🤣

(((Petal))). There are no words, really, but I am so sorry about your loss.
I look after myself 😁 Considering the original prognosis, which included a wheelchair...they actually had my name on one, literally 😳 ...and carers, I've done well and can manage everything I need to. I even walk my dog on the hills beside my house. Dexterity continues to improve and at last, I can drive again.
Onwards and upwards.
