The two Voyager spacecraft were launched 44 years ago and Voyager 1 is "only" 14 billion miles away after all this time after travelling at nearly 40,000MPH.
Any aliens locating it would probably think it was very primitive and travelling really slowly. Were they to actually get hold of it, would they make any sense of the disc it carries and actually be able locate the senders (us) in the Universe?
Would aliens actually come here or would they observe from a distance? Wouldn't it be a bit foolhardy to just approach a Planet and it's occupants without making prior contact? Star Trek was great (for it's time) but just think about actually travelling at warp speed? A huge craft (and the occupants) would have to survive terrific forces in acceleration and deceleration and as for smaller craft intended for "landing", wouldn't it be a bit risky flying at great speed anywhere near this Planet with all the junk littering near space?
There, just a few more questions to stretch the imagination?
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
