It's so hard.  After my little encounter with the couple I was then walking along an embankment which is wide enough to give people clearance and three teenagers walking abreast came towards me.  I asked them politely if they would mind moving aside to give me some space and they just looked at me like I was mad.  Mind you they did move if only for that reason
