The police dogs are not an inanimate tool, they're a living being with the power of some reasoning.

SOME, even that is dabatble.

They just learn to react in a certain way that gains them a positive pleasureable reward.

My previous reply CD, Was posted in the way it was because in my opinion it was relllevant to the point I was trying to make that dogs, yes are clever to a point but are just used as a tool.

Its not just finn that's a good police dog.

I still don’t understand why there should be additional penalties for those attacking service animals - why not extend the same penalties to anyone attacking any animal?

There was very little publicity over the death of Mrs. Collins, (certainly compared to the stabbing of PD Finn) - why?

The officer in charge of PD Dano received just a written warning despite according to the Coroner not carrying out a risk assessment, not informing Mrs Collins that there would be a dog loose in her garden and, after removing Dano from the house following the first attack, didn’t ensure that the door to the house was firmly closed before releasing the dog which allowed the second attack.

If you are going to be in charge of an animal that receives special protection under the law then it seems reasonable that the person in charge of the animal should also hold a higher responsibility to ensure that the public are not harmed.

While you're right about this particular case, don't forget that more people are killed by a horse than Police Dogs?

True - but the vast majority of those deaths are the horse rider or owners, not ‘innocent’ members of the public.  Is it fair to claim that a rider who falls and dies was killed by the horse?

More than 200 horses are ‘killed’ whilst racing each year in the UK, they get no special protection yet they are being ‘used’ just for fun 😞
