The Navy extensively investigated the fire on the Forrestal and that was certainly not their conclusion ,far from it
 The explosion resulted from a missile misfire from a MD F4 phantom lined up opposite the Skyhawks on the rear deck of the Forrestal . The experienced F4 pilot was extensively interviewed (and it wasn't McCain, who flew Skyhawks) nor was the pilot of the F4 essentially at fault, two safety features failed one by accident the other because the ships senior command decided to overide navy regulations for operational efficiency 

McCain invited Obama to be a main speaker at his funeral, which he did, and defended him even during the presidential election they fought together . McCain gently removed a mic from a woman who suggested Obama might not be American and politely told her ...
