Women should be able to report wolf-whistling, catcalling and unwanted attention on public transport to the police as hate crimes, according to Grimsby’s MP.

Labour front-bench politician Melanie Onn MP has secured a debate in Parliament on Wednesday, March 7, to call for misogyny to be made a hate crime .

The town’s MP said women should not have to put up with unwanted behaviour in public and argues that a law change would make women more confident in reporting such behaviours.

Does she have a point or is it another case of socialism gone mad?

What a load of fuss about a trivial thing, not to mention that the police are supposedly too short on resources to deal with some proper crimes!

Worrying about a wolf whistle is very trivial imho, but when that whistle leads on to abuse, unwanted attention and invasion of personal privacy etc then it is criminal, not sure about the label hate crime though.

Women should not be able to report a simple wolf whistle to the already overworked police, they should ignore it if they don't like it. If I lived in that MP's constituency I would be disgusted at the waste of debating time; she should turn her attention to something important, such as the housing crisis.

Mysogony is a dislike of or contempt for women. Surely, a wolf whistle ( although perhaps a little crude) is just the opposite.

It can be embarrassing in public, but hardly a sign of hate. The woman is barmy.

I Agree however women should not have to put up with some of the nonsense mentioned in joes report, surely it is a matter of interpretation! Any bloke who makes a lewd comment ought to know that there are serious consequences likewise anyone who is trolled on social media ought to be able to ask for their identity and meet them for a one to one😀

Well the chiffchavs were out early this morning, & I am sure they were singing the 'red flag' - even the little tweety birds are not immune from this
