It should be ok if it is a company, I just don't understand why they didn't return the letter to the Tax office, unless they thought it was an employer. 

Sounds like it might be easier to go to the office and pick it up. You wouldn't expect the Tax office to make that mistake. I can understand your frustration. If it was the other way round, you might get a fine for being late returning it.
