Businesses in panic over rising import costs

Companies & Financial Institutions are readying plans to leave the UK

Ex-pats in limbo, over whither they'll be allowed to stay in Spain, France etc

UK Property Portfolio Funds are crashing or being suspended before they crash

Violence and abuse against Foreigners has risen sharply

British shares are falling (FTSE100 mostly made up of Foreign & MultiNationals seen as safe haven)

Banks all across Europe on the Brink again (their shares have collapsed)

Loads of Bonds are at their lowest levels ever

Governor of the Bank of England issues warnings

Why all the fuss about Ex-pats? They have made their beds and now they have to lie in them. They want to have their cake and eat it. They want to keep their British passports, but don't want to live in Britain. If they want to stay in the countries of their choice, let them give up their British status and become citizens of their chosen home country. Simples.

Inevitable really IMO. We voted the wrong way and will be punished for doing so. The powers that be will now do everything possible to demonstrate to other would-be ship jumpers what a terrible mistake we made. They have the power to manipulate markets, interest rates etc. and ensure the UK suffers like never before.

In the coming negotiations the UK will be negotiating from a weak position so will be pushed to accept the worst terms possible with as little benefit as possible to the UK and no fundamental changes to the EU.

Unless our negotiators have the strength (and the will) to resist we will be left ham-strung for years to come. A permanent reminder to other EU member states and their people of what happens if they step out of line.

Not so rosy a picture when you compare the pound against the dollar though - the currency we apparently will be using when we negotiate all these new trade deals.

Long long ago, the American colonies opted out, but whether you like them or not, they prospered and flourished.

We will do the same - if we put in the effort and stop whining! I voted out and I want out! To remain was rather like many passengers aboard Titanic who wouldn't leave, because they didin't want an "uncomfortable" night in the lifeboats!

It may be hard at first, but it is all for the best!

Exactly, as long as our negotiators don't shackle us to the EU on unfavourable terms. They must not be frightened into giving way on everything just to get a deal.

At least now we're out our politicians are accountable to some degree to us. In the EU the policy makers are accountable to no-one and our lot can hide behind them and say "not our fault, it's EU policy to cut our own throat".

Not quite so long ago those colonies started to come together in a union to assist each other - not long ago there was a civil war between those who wanted to keep the 'old ways' and those who wanted reform - eventually there evolved a federal union where federal laws and state laws co-existed without wails about loss of sovereignty.

The result - a union where the whole is greater than the sum of all their parts.

You missed out that before all this the Americans fought a war to gain their Independence and control their own sovereignty against England.

The union works because all the people are Americans and all pull together for the greater good of THEIR country and are not ruled over by other nations and cultures.

Perhaps your fathers vision of a federal Europe is not one that the rest of us agree with.

Not sure that is quite right Creeky. Wasn't the civil war fought to stop the "South" ceceeding from the union? Wasn't the Federal Union imposed by the victorious "North" whereas before it was a voluntary union of independent states?

The victory of the north saw the freedom to ceceed removed and the imposing of federal law above state law unless the Supreme Court could be persuaded otherwise. A long and tortuous process as the Supreme Court judges are to this day appointed by the president of the union. I don't see that scenario as evolving.

No need to bring the American Civil War and slavery into it. Britain led the way in abolishing slavery! The American colonies didn't want to be ruled by a country thousands of miles away.

I don't know why you are bringing the American Civil War into it. The result was that the Northern side and the Soutern side came together. In other words, Americans uniting with other Americans. It is totally different from wanting the UK to unite with the continent who are NOT the same nationality!

Irrespective It still remains that the federal system works in the States because it's all done in house and not handed out to non Americans to deal with.

We more or less have the same system in place here with Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Executive.

Read your American history - it wasn't just 'Americans' as you put it - it was a whole host of nationalities that fought both the War of Independence and the Civil War. The US is built on a foundation of many cooperating together to become stronger by virtue of size.

The federal system became a success when the independent states recognised that by working together they all became stronger as have the 'new' states that joined the Union, such as Hawaii and Alaska, at a later date.

A Federal Union of Europe will become a reality at some stage and we may end up regretting not being a part of it.
