This is the uniform of a 'Queen's Messenger' circa 1940.
These guys where normally young lads who, for whatever reason, could not make the grade for conscription but where fit enough to work for the war effort.
Thier job was to carry messages around the country, usually from local railway stations, to command posts to facilitate defence issues.
Most of the time they worked during the blackout when we where under attack from air raids so a very dangerous job.
