Another observation - the issue about the import of cheap lower grade steel from China could have been blocked within the EU, but hey - guess which nation vetoed the proposal?
Rememer the days when cars had a shelf life of about years when they rusted to pieces around you.
There's a lot more to this going on behind the scenes than is apparent and I wouldn't trust this government as far as I could chuck an egg at them, and my throwing skills are pretty lousy these days.

guess the goverment is looking at the bigger picture, also fully agree with Creeky for once

Yes, I did kind of think that was a bit of a P take when I heard it. There's our government **bleep** footing around, trying not to upset the Chinese and our various trade agreements with them and Chinese slap a 46% tariff on our steel; just after TaTa announce they're pulling the plug..........talk about not knowing who your friends are.......truly pathetic.
I did hear somebody on TV ,yesterday, implying that TaTa only bought Port Talbot and the other plants; to get access to the technology of how to made high grade steel......now they've found out, they are dumping them and taking the technology back to India; to make it cheaper.

One factor that makes a massive difference to the finished price of steel and doesn't seem to have been mentioned is the location of the raw material needed to make steel - iron ore. Tata own massive iron ore mines but they are in India - China also have huge mines, in China.
Our steel industry has to buy ore and ship it half way round the world.

Dont know if recycled metal effects that creeky, but there is almost no market for that either, least the manhole covers will last a bit longer.
Read today that Tata may form an alliance with a German Steel Manufacturer, Thyssenkrupp AG and that they needed to clean up their portfolio.
