As the conflict was over the Suez area and the canal rather than a country although the other idea was to remove Nasser, there were still several thousand killed and injured so talking before the event didn't stop it.

The canal was blocked by Egypt which foiled the whole idea and it was the UN which more or less forced the invaders to withdraw.
