In fact, among those that caught the censor's eye was the book “How to drive your man wild in bed” back in 1985. It is still banned. To give you some idea of how strict censorship was, the word “pregnant” did not appear in print until 1960. Until then it always printed as “she is expecting a happy event.” We were surprised to discover that there are currently 274 books and 266 magazines still banned in Ireland. In fact, Ireland’s own blasphemy law has been brought up many times in the last week in discussions over freedom of speech, in relation to the cartoons published by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, and many other publications since, mocking the values held by Islamic terrorists. Many of these cartoons depict Muhammad.
