In some cases this is part of the trick though. There are some adverts that totally miss the mark with me because I'll recognise an associated tune or dialogue after being exposed to an ad several times but I won't have a clue what's being advertise or who the associated company is.
However think of Coke, Hoover, Jeep and others that we are so desensitised to that they have become generic names for similar items. People do buy recognised brands and they often get recognition through advertising.
