I detect that you (like my wife) are just a little anti-Gove. Believe me there is so much more that the general public are oblivious to that it is just frightening!

My wife now teaches at another school where there are 16 different nationalities. English is put at the top of the governments list of priorities - as it should be!!! However how do you teach English to so many different nationalities who don't speak a word, at the same time as her having no knowledge of their language? About 3 months ago I had to google translate several items for her into 3 languages to give her a chance of putting a lesson together. Her school is expected to have a certain level of success in English exams - just not possible! Unless of course you rig the figures!

She tells me of Roumanian kids who are little better than feral, they have no experience of schooling and will frequently just get up and leave. The whole family will sometimes be in that area one week and be gone the next. They swear at her in their own language and show women complete contempt. There is a racial war brewing between Asians and the new migrants because they hate each other. One of the courses she was on last year was to show her how to deal with fights between students - as she said to me afterwards 'Dream on if you think I'm getting involved'!

About 5 years ago there was a member of staff who was responsible for newly arrived families and their integration into school life. He told her "you know Diane, there is not a single student here who does not have one or more family members who have come to use the health service". We wonder why th health service is bending under the strain!

There are some lovely kids amongst these migrants - some good families, but the greater majority are here for what they can get for free.

She was not trained as a teacher to deal with this - Michael Gove ought to try it, but he only goes to selected schools!

She has recently resigned because 'she's had enough', taking her pension before some other government does - another good teacher gone!
