We are told that the Universe is expanding.

As I understand it, if something expands, it expands into something.

So if the Universe is expanding, what is it expanding into

But how is the Universe defined, and does it have an edge.
If it does, what is beyond that edge.

Or am I thinking too simply and too linear.
