A woman has spoken of her surprise at finding a £5 note tucked into a box of eggs as a New Year's gift from a mystery benefactor.

Lauren Scouse found the money with a note attached when she bought the eggs at a Tesco store in Southsea, Hampshire.

The note said: "Happy New Year. May it be full of health, peace and prosperity."

The mother of two told the Portsmouth News: "I thought it was lovely and it's so nice knowing that someone has done that without knowing who it was going to.

"I know it's only £5 and it's not a life-changing amount of money but it was really kind."
