I wouldn't disagree with you Lola but the sad fact is for a high proportion of the population, particularly among young females, their life is lived through their phones.

You now have the type of situation where a mother will learn that she is a grandmother from her daughter's Facebook page before she gets the news directly from the daughter.

I too would be more than a bit miffed if the ungrateful brat didn't even acknowledge the present and have the courtesy to thank the OP.  It's just bad manners and there's no excuse even if she is a hormonal teenager.

Or is ingratitude, to be expected.

If I recieve a gift, I thank the giver profusely for thinking of me.  A gift is not mandatory it should never be recieved in such an offhand manner.

As for sounding like she wanted to be praised, well to me it sounded only that a nice smile, a look of appreciation, and a thank-you was what was wanted, and definitely should have been proffered, at the very least..
