You should then click 1902 and it takes you to the nwest but its always right down the thread,

This is how I jump to first unread post:
Open Gifs, pic and graphics thread, in 'Topic options' click 'Mark topic as read' & bookmark.
Make sure in 'My Settings'>Preferences>Linear Layout that Jump to first unread post in a topic is ticked.
When you click on Discussions Boards at the top you will see this:
