Agreed although I have felt for sometime a lot of the original ethos has been lost.

My husband had the same problem, in his case it was because his iphone was to old.

They won't see sense and revert back for some God only knows reason!
Hard to keep the faith..

I just give up on the app. Access it on pc. Been with ebay 20yrs+. It's not what it was. I sure won't be upgrading my phone every time they want to put an app out. It worked fine for me ten years ago. Is only listing and buying
at the end of the day.

They have lost half their trade!
Me also!

I don't want a 5G phone because of the health problems and concerns doctors and scientists have with it so that's something I'm avoiding and I won't go higher than a Samsung Galaxy S9 for that reason so might have to just stop selling on eBay if they keep pushing updates that are heavy on the phone and Force other apps off my phone which I don't want to remove then forget it

All 5G phones still support 4G so you don't actually need to use the 5G functionality.  Many areas don't even have 5G coverage yet.

I have a samsung tab S7 with android 10, which i gather ought to work. But the app won't install. I would upgrade the version but it wont let me. So the thing about requiring v10 or higher does not seem correct.

I tried several times and looked for solutions. Over the years you experience such things from technology. If an app is updated and the company does not go out of its way to tell you it will not work in your particular device then they are in the wrong.
They make you keep updating even though they could keep the app very simple so that you don't have to get rid of the phone you are comfortable with.
I'm currently having to ditch my perfectly able computer because I can't load windows 11 onto it.

I'll just do without the app. Ebay becomes less and less fun, particularly as in the UK the government want a cut of any money you make above a certain amount.

It's always worth checking when a post was written.

It's taken some time for me to scroll back and find the information that I added re v10 / higher required for the app,  and I must admit couldn't remember adding that recently.

That's because that post of mine was written early February this year !

In 9 months there have been updates!

This is the latest,  do you have this update....

6.2333.1.2

Hopefully this will solve your issue.

@3250stuart

I'm in a similar situation to yours. I have a Windows 10 laptop (not a fan of W10, but it does what I need it to), but it doesn't meet the requirements for an upgrade to Windows 11.

Just in case you weren't aware, if you have W10 you should have the option to sign up for extended W10 security updates for another year, i.e. up to October 2026. Have a look here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/extended-security-updates

I've activated it, as it means I don't have to stress about getting a new laptop for a bit longer.

Hi thanks for the info. Will definitely look into that.

Cheers

Hi there, just a quick question, how would one "force" install the APK onto there old device, or what did you do? i have so far spoofed the app version on an android 8 tablet to the newer version code which does run, but with the old "Hamburger" 2023/2024 Pre UI change layout, so i would rather force install the latest apk, i can tell that it would work too as the forced "update" banner does not stop the app from working underneath, meaning that the only thing that has changed is a line of code that forces this popup to appear, so if it was not for that as you most likely know the app would still function exactly the same, kind regards.

Hi mate. Far too much effort going down the road you have ... in my opinion. I gave up on it and decided that if I ever update my phone I'll install ebay...maybe. If they choose to update the app, don't have a user-friendly guide to install or deal with problems then.... the company doesn't really deserve us.

I've been with Ebay many years but it's become less and less worth bothering with. I just access it from pc if I ever need to .

Good luck with it...

Hello, sorry for the slow reply. You would need a copy of the correct apk first, you'll find these with google. Be selective and careful when downloading apks, APKmirror is a good source but always download apks with caution and be aware of the risks, the files can be tampered with of course.

You will have to enable installation from unknown sources in your phone's settings. Google can help you here. After that you can just 'run' the apk file on the phone - easiest to download it using the phone - and it will start the installer.

Version 15.6.1 and a blank screen, go on google and load as a page no problem but insists on verification. deleted and re installed app and - blank

Hello, thank you for the reply.

I think there has been a bit of confusion, i know the steps to install an APK, but the confusion is over how you installed an android 10 + version of the ebay APK on your android 9 device, attempting to do so would usually result in an app not installed error due to code version mismatches with the installation process, or the file not being readable at all, did you force install using the normal apk installer, or a commandline such as ADB (Android debug bridge?) kind regards.

I didn't actually mess with my phone like that. I'm not that technical and i don't like compromising security because I'd messed up somehow. I've given up but may install it next time i change my phone.

Cheers.
