I have a Samsung S8, how do I know what Android 10 / 9 / 8 I have?

You should be able to find out in the phones "Settings" area

Go to Settings > System > About phone > Android version.

You have Android 8.

Many thanks👍

Navigate to the settings, scroll down until you see 'about phone' click on it, then click on 'software' and it should tell you which Android you have. I'm quoting this from my memory, so there is a good chance I've missed a step. I've got an S7, which only updates to Android 8. An S8 will update to Android 9 but that is not high enough to upgrade the app. There are unofficial higher versions around but I wouldn't want them on my phone.

I have no connection with eBay or work for them, apart from being a customer. If you contact eBay, be firm and express your feelings. That is NOT a solution 🙄

Yep, I know proper Eric Dier

People in this thread are just trying to help fellow eBayers. Please contact eBay to express your feelings.

I have done so.

Their loss.

If eBay put the minimum operating system requirements in their pop-up message for the app upgrade, it would save a lot of people a lot of time.

and money, because at this rate I'll be buying a newer phone

Having the same issue with iPhone , I have iOS 16.7 and it needs iOS 17 , surely it’s a mistake , they wouldn’t just fire an update out there with no prior notice cutting off many many users from the app !

No prior notice was given but an announcement has been made since:

Haha, so I need a new device to run the app, where should I look? Maybe eBay, ah not a chance, as I can’t use the bloody app. Nice catch 22 position eBay. How bizarre of a decision not to allow an older version to be used and screw yourself! Yes, the web app does work, however the functionality as a seller too is poor. At least allow the older version to function.

What a great comment 😂couldn’t agree with u more .don’t think they’ll change their minds though despite all the complaints.ignorant sods .😡

I don’t know if this has already been suggested: if you’re using Android and Chrome, you can add the web version of eBay as an ‘app’

  • at the top of the browser, click the three dots
  • click “add to Home Screen” - you get a dialog “install app”, but don’t worry, this won’t be the Play Store app
  • you’ll now have an ‘eBay’ icon on your screen

it’s just a shortcut, but it really doesn’t feel that different to the app. Might even be a bit faster on my old phone 😀. Oh and if you have JavaScript disabled or need to set any other permissions, just press and hold the icon, and select ‘site settings’.

saves my from buying a new phone for a few more months …

Did try that but could not sign in.
