It took me a while to find this thread. How many people are out there still struggling to get the app to work. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

I have no connection with eBay or work for them, apart from being a customer. If you contact eBay, be firm and express your feelings. Please bear in mind, the people at the other end are employees, just like you and me (until I retired). Please be polite and respectful. You’re more likely to be listened to.

So any android 9 system is buggered only via web any patches coming

To be fair to Samsung their latest premium phones (e.g. Galaxy S line) now come with 7 years of Android OS and security updates so better than what they used to offer.

What is the update period for their budget and mid-range models?

Personally I have never spent more than £200 on a handset; I usually buy a replacement after 4 to 5 years (SIM only contract). Ever since Trump forced Huawei out of western markets I have been purchasing mid-range Honor branded devices (the Honor brand was sold off by Huawei to please the US authorities).

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Can anyone predict the future?

What would be a future proof Samsung phone to get, which can be updated to a high enough Android version that won't need upgrading for a few years. I know this is an impossible task but just a finger in the wind estimate would be a starting point.

Google releases beta versions of future Android operating system versions and publishes hardware requirements well in advance of the release date in order for manufacturers to prepare their device-specific upgrade/installation ROMs. Minimum hardware requirements are rarely an issue for devices less than 5 years old and all versions of Android are supported for just over three years from release with security updates. There is no reason why an Android handset manufactured in 2017 should not be able to run a version of Android released in 2020 unless it was near the bottom end of the budget market to begin with.

For the record I have never purchased nor would I recommend a Samsung handset due to their built-in obsolescence.

I also agree with an earlier post. My laptop is not suitable for Win 11. So in October it will be obsolete. A new laptop or Ubantu? I don't even know if it still exists. This is what you get for being loyal customers of Microsoft, Samsung and eBay etc.

Ubuntu still exists and is going strong; I highly recommend it.

Yes I'm having the same issues

1000's are in the same chaotic mess, ebay will lose alot of buyers/sellers
for sure, shocking how they have treated us, no warnings at all, just bad

Most of my life I have felt I'm part of the community, now I feel like cannon fodder.

I have no connection with eBay or work for them, apart from being a customer. If you contact eBay, be firm and express your feelings. Hi I had problems with loading the ebay app a friend helped me. I tried 4 hours

Yesterday.

You have to make sure your phone has the latest update.

Then re download the Ebey app

What's you've got the app on your phone what for 30min for it to kick in.

Because it did not work at his house

By the time I got home it was working

Yes same as you

Maybe they’re reading all the complaints.not much help for us with older phones.or phones that are not compatible with the new app. They need to remember it’s the small people like us that have built eBay into the way it is now .it’s gone too big .and not everyone can afford a new phone especially pensioners like me.we all liked it the way it was .I’m really disappointed ☹️ with this decision as I should imagine a lot of people are.think they’ll lose a lot off customers.😡

Looks like 5 years of OS and security updates for the current Samsung A models.

Totally agree with u .😡

IAM just waiting for Sony to get back to me for information on if they are
going to update they're software to android 10 or even beyond that if
possible. I dont think it's fair that app developers seem to control what
the android products makers need to comply to

100%...the hypocrisy is crazy.

Having checked it seems it is now (as of January last year) 7 years of security updates for top-end models, 5 years for mid-range "A" models and 2 OS upgrades + 3 years of security updates for budget models. I have highlighted security updates in italics because it isn't 7 years of OS and security updates - Google provides security updates for 3 years following an Android release. It does however mean that a new mid-range Samsung device should be good for 6 to 8 years following manufacture before it starts to become obsolete which is a huge step in the right direction.

This is much better than Samsung's previous policy but obviously it doesn't help anyone currently having issues who owns a Samsung device that was manufactured prior to circa 2018.

so Ebay wont work with anything less than android 10? thats annoying

The app will not work but the website will via a browser.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

spent all last night uninstalling and re-installing ebay app absolutely frustrating as am in ebay all the time....tried again tonight a few times and thought id try on my chromebook and its given me the option to update to latest version which ive done.  whilst logged on thought i would google why eaby not giving me th update option on mobile and stumbled across this forum, wish i had done this last night and not wasted all of my time, ill just need to get used to using the ebay app on my chromebook or like people are saying via the internet

I am having the same problem with my s10

This is ACTUALLY REALLY annoying. I used the app on my phone a LOT. I dont want to have to buy a new phone just for this.
