Reserve prices

I recently saw an item with an offer , it was what i was looking for so bid the "asking price" for it. The seller took their time to say yea or nay. Then I get an offer three times the asking price, ie 100, buy now 300. Looking at this I saw that reserve price not reached, now is my bid valid or has it been thrown out as it were? I replied it was what was wanted and if my bid wasn't accepted then say no, but nothing.

To  me a "hidden " price is all wrong , you bid what they ask for the item and come back with an offer of 3times what was advertised. This has really got my goat , I let other items go which were more than the £100 bid but now he wants 300. A bit convoluted but I  hope you can understand.

Seller may have started listing at £100, but reserve will be higher.

When you bid, it will show if reserve met, if not then you won't win item.

You could try counter offering. but you can only make 3 offers.

Message seller & ask what their reserve is, they may or may not tell you.

Reserves are expensive for sellers (4% of reserve amount), if item does not sell, they still pay fee.

An auction start price is not the asking price if there is a reserve.

So has my offer been rejected? Or what ? Ive never seen this before in all my years on the platform.

You made a bid below the reserve,  that won't count and is not an offer.

The seller made you an offer.

Ok so why didn't he say my offer was no good? I'm confused. When Ive offered before its been rejected or accepted.

Sellers/buyers don't have to respond to offers.

It will time out after 48 hours (I think)

You said you bid,  that's different to making an offer.
