I received an automated message from ebay telling me that something I purchased - an electrical item - has been recalled as unsafe. I do remember buying it, but when I looked through my purchases I cannot find it to pursue this with the seller. I've tried Search using the item description, and I've tried scrolling back through all my listed purchases and it seems to have disappeared. Which seems extremely odd, if not downright suspicious. It wasn't a private sale, but through an eBay retailer. Any advice welcome.

That usually means the seller's account has been suspended by ebay. In any case you can only open a return case through ebay within 30 days of the delivery date. Assuming the seller won't volunteer a refund your other option is, if it's still within 120 days of payment, to contact your payment provider and see if they can help. After that time, if the seller is in the UK, you're looking at using moneyclaim online (small claims court).
