POSTAGE TO THE USA

I have sold an item to post to the USA mainland, the only postage option is UPS and they want to charge £24 to send an item weighing 70g no other option are offered.

You don't have to buy your postage from Ebay.

Take it to the Post Office and pay for postage there.
