eBay Depop Acquisition Closing Delayed

Interesting info from Etsy's earnings this morning - the expected closing of sale of Depop to eBay has been delayed from original estimate of Q2 to end of Q3 2026.  The deal has cleared regulatory hurdles in US and Germany but is still under review in UK and Australia.

Second-hand fashion marketplace Tise , which eBay acquired last year, has recently quietly expanded into the Australian market and plans to expand further into Europe and potentially the UK this year as well - which could give regulators pause.

I do still believe the deal will ultimately go through, but it will be interesting to see if they have to make any adjustments to appease regulators.

It mentions eBay once and Etsy multiple times.

Is there any significance of that?

Presumably Etsy is mentioned more because the extract is from an Etsy earnings report.

@arkwebus  Etsy is mentioned multiple times simply because they reported earnings this morning so this initial notice came from them.

I expect when eBay releases their earnings report later today, they'll also have their own statement to make about it.

Regardless, It's still relevant to eBay users since once the deal is done, eBay will own Depop and I figured UK users might be particularly interested since the Competition and Markets Authority is currently reviewing it and taking public comment on the merger.

Well if they do end up owning it, I really hope that they do something to improve it.

If you think support here is bad, don't even think about trying it there.

I'm still waiting for VAT invoices from them, from over a year ago now!

I must admit though, based on my use of it, I am really quite surprised that it's valued so highly.

The value is based on the market value of Vinted.

Depop maybe the Danny Drinkwater of the secondhand marketplace world.

I have literally no idea who that is.  Only know as I've just looked it up, so can't really understand the reference to be honest.  Football is most definitely not my thing.  🙂

And this is from eBay's earning's presentation today. Basically they are saying Depop will eventually still add to adjusted profit, but they don’t expect that to happen until 2028 now with the delayed timeframe for closing.
