I've got a question for manor house books. Somebody I know has a copy of Poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning published by Miles & Miles of Foresters Hall Clerkenwell she's convinced, because she hasn't found a copy on any of the sites I can't mention here, that she has got a rare and valuable copy which she is keen for me to sell. I've checked the publishers and found a couple of books published by them in the 1900s which make me think listing this book is not worth the effort. However, and this is the key point for her, the book has a printed dedication by EBB to her father dated 1844 so it must be an early edition! If you have any idea of a publication date and any more information about this edition I'd be overjoyed to hear from you. I'm not disparaging old ladies and their finds as I've done quite well out of some of them but this book just doesn't ring true.

The first edition was published in 1844, going along with the dedication date, but that was published by Moxon. The dedication page will almost certainly appear in every copy, even modern reprints.
Looks like you have a turn of the century reprint from a very small publisher.

Could someone please tell me what the LBS stands for at the end of quite a few of the titles in the book listings. Heres an example

I think LBS is for Littlehampton Book Services Ltd a distributor and probably the source for many mega-listers

'The Feather Men' looks about right. Also it used to fetch a decent price on eBay a couple of years ago.
As for 'Reaper Man', who is the publisher? If it is Gollancz, yes it will be the first. But not if it is BCA.

The book and title are correct, its a self published book about three Buckinghamshire villages so proabaly not many floating around at all.
Best bet would be to try libraries and historical societies etc local to the villages covered.
You could also post a Want It Now ad on Ebay.

Hi all
Does anyone have or know where I can get a copy of Teaching Kids to Sing by Kenneth Phillips - for a reasonable price. I've tried to order it from a couple of bookstores in UK(WH Smith and Blackwell Books) and after a few weeks of waiting they've said its unavailable. I did notice a copy was on sale on Ebay for about £90 (bit rich for me) but haven't seen a copy since. Anyone got any ideas. I don't even mind if its second hand. I need it for my final year of Degree.

Can anyone help me find the book "Teaching Kids to Sing" by Kenneth Phillips. Tried to order from 2 UK bookstores (one of them being WH Smith) but on both occasions after 2/3 weeks of waiting I get an email to say "sorry no longer available" (despite the fact WH Smith still have it listed on their website). Please help if you can - I need this book to help me with my final year of my Music Degree.
