Fingers crossed! Honestly, this is one of eBay's stupidest decisions, so they really can't revert it quickly enough...

Well, it now says that rating the item is optional but the "leave feedback" button is greyed out unless you do rate it.

Not for me, i assume you've filled in everything else (that isn't that)? Otherwise, no idea! (share a screenshot perhaps?) But it's fine for me now.

Yes, filled in the seller feedback part. I tried to attach a screenshot to my previous reply but I only see it as a downloadable attachment so perhaps doing something wrong?

i think it might be the "Tell us more about this item" - that's where you put how the transaction went. That's always been mandatory, so just shove a few words in there ("no problems!") or some such and you're good to go, no need to rate or anything.

I had seen it mentioned that this was only happening for new items, but my latest purchase, which was listed as "used" is requiring me to review the item in order to leave feedback.

Thisis particularly galling, as the seller was very helpful and I would love to be able to leave feedback for *him*, not the item.
Incidentally, when I first contacted eBay UK customer support via Facebook, they said that they would never force us to review items in order to leave feedback. Imagine their surprise when I sent a screenshot.
This is idiotic and ill-conceived. I wonder when they will notice the drop-off in feedback being left?

Can you upload a screenshot?

The lower half of the page, showing the greyed-out button (requires text to be entered in the box). Again, this item was described as used. Having just checked, all my latest items have this style feedback page, including another used item.

The "Tell us more about this item" box used to be "Tell us what you loved about your experience", as shown by this screenshot from an older transaction. This is what we want back.

That's what I thought. Well I'm just adding a comment about the transaction, not saying anything about the item itself. Works for me 🤷🏻‍

On the App the comment box has had 'Tell us more about this item' on it for a long time, way before the 'Rate this item' section was added.  I always felt it was confusing.

I can't say I've ever noticed the comment box has changed.

I've always mentioned the same things as we are asked to rate, the item as described against the reality of what arrives, the dispatch time, the packaging & sometimes, the postage. Very occasionally I'll mention the product.

Having only recently noticed the 'How would you rate this item?' is now optional, I've also noticed it's now been removed on a lot of the items where it was previously present & compulsory

It makes me feel that perhaps, that hour long online chat I had with eBay about this did some good after all!

Along with all the others who complained, of course!

Well, I'm still getting a majority of "rate this item" in my leave feedback section, so I'm just not going to bother any more.

Well, this sucks. I have just been asked by a seller if I would be so kind as to leave feedback for him and I can't. All I can do is rate the item.
EBay has ruined a perfectly good feedback system and is hurting sellers. This needs to be fixed now.

The 'How would you rate your item' section is now optional.

As for the comment box, even though it refers to the item, you can put whatever you like in there.

How is that relevant to the seller though? Does that not show against the item and not the seller?

The whole thing is stupid and ill-conceived. I will not be part of it.

Sorry i'm a bit late to chime in on this but i don't use ebay that much and have obviously lagged behind feedback for a while.

Just had a catchup and i'm completely confused now.  Has this been clarified anywhere?

It tells me to leave details about the item, but i thought i was leaving seller feedback?  Which is it?

The change is such a mess, how did anybody think it was a good idea?  Some high-flying exec earning a 6 figure salary completely out of touch with reality no doubt.

Apologies for the late reply.

You can still rate the sellers' performance in various categories out of 5 (as you always could) but it's now optional & hidden & is easy to overlook.

It's titled 'Rate more details about your purchase (Optional)' v

You click the downward arrow to the right of 'Optional' & the categories open up.

On the 'Tell us more about this item' box you just leave your normal feedback.

Above this you sometimes get (depending on the item) 'How would you rate this item? (Optional).

This is the box that caused all the trouble (you originally had to fill this in to leave feedback). However, following numerous complaints, combined with the fact that nobody on the eBay helpdesk knew anything about it, or, what it meant, it is now optional, so you can just ignore it.

Totally agree.. I'm more than miffed at the fact ebay want me to spend my precious time (for no reward) reviewing something I may not use for several weeks or more. I'm just not leaving review for item and messaging seller directly explaining why I'm thanking them directly for the fast dispatch and packaging etc..

Carry on ebay... You're going the right way to destroying what used to be a successful business.!

Thanks for the link.  Hadn't even noticed the new system for feedback till today (I was using my old link to the old, better feedback system).  Again, so stupid.  I want to give good feedback to the seller quickly, but why would I rate a car part I have only just bought, might not install for a few weeks, and won't know if it is ok till it's been in my car for a good while longer?
