Cooked one of my Maxtor drive with about 6 months business work on it.
Who should have backed-up regularly?
Luckily have all paper copies to Oct 2005!

Hi Lindum, bet you could do with a big steak now.
Me too, and hammering it straight through the centre of my hard drive!
Just received a data recovery quote £460 + Vat.
I'm losing weight just thinking about it!

Manufacturers have confirmed it's dead, it is no more, bereft of life it rests in peace.......etc
I've already run Maxtor diagnostics to confirm that drive is faulty. The firmware has been corrupted and will need specialised work to recover data. Just contacted a guy in Christchurch and will be zooming across there tomorrow with both drives. Fingers crossed.

...that quote is not too bad fna_clue...providing it comes with a clause that if it is a total loss to start with you don't have to pay anymore....I am in IT and some of the data we get recovered is worth a lot more to our business.....just keep backing up your files on disk or flip disk....when it's gone it's gone folks....

Hi Lindum, the quote from the guy in Christchurch is even better £88+Vat for initial 1GB recovered and £1.50+Vat thereafter. No charge of unable to recover.
No excuses at not backing-up, drives are identical (primary master and slave) so intentions were to mirror the drives, just didn't get it done.
Should have burned onto CD (like I have in the past), didn't because these are 12 month old drives. Lesson learned (the hard way).
