Could it be "fish"?  That would make "Toothfish" - a kind of cod; and "Fishguard" - a Welsh town.  I haven't entered this as an "official" answer, in case it's wrong!

Sorry for my prolonged absence from Fun & Games, but I've had a lot going on recently.  It's a bit of a long (and very boring) story, so I won't bore you with the details.

 

Anyway, the answer was "Pick" - as in "Toothpick" - a wooden stick with sharpened ends used to remove food debris from betweent the teeth after eating, and "Pickguard" - the part of a guitar (whether acoustic or electric) designed to bear the brunt of the pick making contact with the guitar during playing, thus prevent the guitar itself from getting scratched up by the pick as as result.
