I have never travelled up the A9. When I said I have been through Aviemore a few times, it was by train on each and every occasion. ![]()

You never know then peter, you may have passed me at one time or another as I sat at 50mph dragging my weary bones either up or down the A9
.
Coming back down is really tedious after going up and unloading, when all you want is to be at home and still have 180 miles in front of you to get to your depot.

Can't see the A9 much from the train, though?

I agree also! I go to Scotland in just under a month, back to the usual haunt 😄

Wizi - I know that place like the back of my hand. You should have said to the people at the planetarium, museum, café and model railway that you know me... 🙂
Was it a day trip or did you stay over?
PS this post is the half-snipe!

That would be a little town in Dumfries & Galloway called, Castle Douglas.... and no, there is no actual castle 😞 The only one near is Threave Castle just up the road from there, and can only be accessed by boat ![]()

cke, I know it well ! I am originally from a small mining village called Bellsbank, just up the brae from Dalmellington. The road that comes out of Dalmellington past the turn off for Loch Doon is actually called the Castle Douglas road by locals. My dad originally came from Girvan and moved to Bellsbank when he married mum and she originally came from Benquhat or as the locals spelt it Benwhat.

Ive stopped there a few times while out on the bike at my clubs rally, which used to be held at Gretna then moved up to Moniaive, a village we fell in love with!

I'm going to have to be quick at grabbing the last place back tonight; there's a lot of thunderstorms around... Just starting to hear the rumbles now...
