MONDAY'S tea thread

Only starting this off early as I have just made my tea ready to cook later.

Home-made chicken and vegetable pies - left over roast chicken, carrots, broccoli, sweetcorn and peas mixed in with home made white sauce - then covered with Just-Rol ready made shortcrust pastry. No need for any extras as all I need is in one dish.

Remember - it takes 17 muscles to smile and 44 muscles to frown - SO KEEP SMILING 🙂

Sounds nice. I should make some as I have some chicken fat to make my pastry with in the fridge.

Be not inhospitable to strangers, lest they be Angels in disguise.

Rainbow Trout Fishcakes, (leftover fish from yesterday) with chilli flakes lime and corriander, with potato wedges and salad.

We are a well fed lot of ladies here on FHG - and very adventurous.

TinTin I have also noticed how a lot of us use leftovers, seasonal veg and 'shortcuts' i.e. not afraid to use packet sauces, ready made pastry (the only way to do it)

What a cleaver lot we are, and we still manage to spend time on the internet, Woman LOL

lamb shanks in mint gravy ( lidl special from a week or so ago. bought extra.. shoved in freezer.) potatoes and peas from the garden..

Ed........I have to use ready made pastry as I dont have cold enough hands to make decent pastry.....mine always comes out looking rather grey LOL.

If you watch a lot of the cookery programmes even many of the chefs use the ready made stuff.....so we are only following the leaders LOL.

Yes we are an imaginative lot on here. Someone, and I cant remember who it was gave the link to a web page by a girl called Jack who does amazingly cheap meals....I shall be having a more in depth look at that and see what I can do.

After the horse meat scandal I made it a mission to buy more fresh ingredients and to spend more time preparing "proper" meals....meals which my 15 year old son loves.

When I cook a roast chicken I put oil and salt on it to make it "crispy chicken skin". My sons dad cooks in a roasting bag so the skin is soft.....guess which he prefers......mine!

I have been very bad, just had a tin of Rice Pudding as I didn't feel like cooking anything at all! (And ate it straight from the tin, cold !)

Of course we do.(spend time on the internet).  What else are we to do whilst dinner cooks.  My old Mum hated me frying anything - pan on hob, everything sizzling, book in other hand!!! Wonders what she'd make of chatting to you lot whilst dinner burned(not) LOL.

Southern fried chicken steaks 'cos OH picked them, minted new potatoes and new carrots with the odd pea from the now empty freezer drawer, served with butter.  It's cooking whilst i type.

Oh and pudding is ice cream, plain yoghurt and home made redcurrant sauce.
