Sorry guys. I may have done the OP wrong. You are giving me a list of names for folk who have done great things. Some I agree with and some I don't, but where are the artefacts? Where are today's majestically carved and painted porcelain figures? Where are today's sculptures the like of Rodin's The Thinker? OK, there may be one or two artists out there with a mass of ability but back in the 1800's there were dozens of them and much of their work still exists in museums and Art galleries.

I was thinking along the same lines recently, Steve.  Sorting my late mother's possessions, I came across some letters written by my great grandmother a few weeks before her death to my great aunt.  They were hurriedly scribed in pencil, just describing her daily activities, but they revealed such a lot about her, her relationships, and the times she lived in. 

Now letter writing has been surpassed by the transitory nature of emails and internal postings, there will be few such artefacts for future generations to treasure.  Sad.

If you do spend time looking a few generations back at photos and letters , a few minutes is probably how future generations will look at you , indeed in 100 years , who bothers ?

Years ago i put new pennys in a plastic box and put them in the ground with a note saying what they were..I hope someone finds them in 200 to 300 years time and makes money on them..Im now going to bury a mobile phone ..Hope it still works in years to come..
