I’m unsure at this point why you can’t accept there is a near universally accepted method of writing down maths. But I think it possibly stems from having an incredibly poor maths teacher.

In everyday life, we're not "doing maths", we're just logically working things out! Also, we're not "writing maths down", we're working things out "in our head".

And how, pray tell, do you teach via this method of ‘doing it all in your head’?
I’d let the government know because I think you’ve just managed to take Mathematics out of the school curriculum.

You're dealing with someone who simply cannot accept that they are wrong.
It may explain why so few people bother to comment on this utterly pointless thread.
Apart from me.

Oh I’m well aware how correct they believe they are.
i don’t mind if they want to continue to post replies back or not. I want to see how much of the educational system we can decimate due to its irrelevance in the ‘real world’

Ah-ha, I see we've got two of those the RT used to have more than it's fair share of who'd argue 'till the cows came home? And I thought they'd all gone........... welcome 🤔
Now perhaps you'd both like to explain how "simple arithmetic" is so wrong compared to "maths"?

Simple arithmetic means you read a sum left to right. You might write it down, you might do it all in that big ol' brain of yours. But still, the term simple arithmetic means you do a sum, left to right as written.
Good news - you've got a bonus at work this month AND you did some overtime.
Your base pay is £2,000. Your bonus is 5% of your base pay and you get £10 per hour overtime and you did 8 hours.
2000 + 2000 x 0.05 + 10 x 8
Enjoy your £1,680

I think most people would look at the figures and think, "Ah, I normally get £2000 a month. This month I get a bonus of 5 percent so this month I get an extra £100. Oh, but I also get £10 an hour for the extra 8 hours overtime. So I'm getting £2000, plus £100, plus £80 that's £2180 all told. Aren't I a lucky boy?"
I suppose before long there'd be some argument about the 5 week month 😀 from the most vociferous?

I'd give up if I were you jonatjonatjonat. Or perhaps for this thread that should be jonat(x3)?
I have a strong suspicion that cee-dee is either Diane Abbott or Rachel Reeves. Neither of them are too good at maths either...

Agreed. I'm just pleased they know that we have the answer that order of operations aren't daft, as cee-dee has got his bonus worked out correctly. 10 out of 10.
I look forward to the next warped question from them that changes the original question. Don't think I'll bother responding though.

Ah-ha, I was waiting for you pair to say that I'd used BODMAS to work that out, not so.
The simple thinking used by most would have been, "5% is £5 per £100, therefore £50 per thousand, we've got £2000 so that's £50 plus £50 equals £100, sooooo £2000 plus £100 is £2100, then we've got another £80 to come so adding that is £2180". So where was BODMAS used by working that out "In the head"???
