My first wife went to the Doctors with pain in the legs..He give her Pain killers ..she then went back as she couldnt sleep and he give her sleeping tablets..for the last 2 months she has been in Hospital suffering from Alzheimer,s and shoulting fits and they had to Section her... My sons couldnt understand what had happened to her and told the Doctors they though the tablets were causing her illness..The Doctors took her of the tablets and now she is back to when she was before she took the tablets and dosent remember the last 2 months in Hospital.. They have found out that she is one of the ones that tablets have a side effect on.. she has got the all clear and will be home in a couple days.....I wonder how many people are in a mental home with nothing wrong with them..

Have heard of instances of this before ....some medications can have a really bad disorientating effect ...causing hallucinations etc.

Goodthat things were sorted...must have been a dreadful experience ...

The Doctor gave her tablets for Depression and she went into Psychotic behaviour and no one caught on..

With any sort of serious adverse change after starting a new medication, that medication should be regarded as suspect and be the first thing looked at.

 

Even before going back to the doctor you should stop taking it and you should always read the leaflet that comes with it.

Its not much good if you have memory loss and cant remember anything..

I would have thought it was the Drs job to point out these things to the patient at consult either to them directly or whoever was with them as carers, especially with antidepressants !.

Certainly for any potential serious side effects also the pharmacist should play a part, I had a recent reaction that may have been due to a new medication and that was yellow carded by the pharmacist.

 

And of course, any new medication should be checked against ones the patient might already been using.

My son put this on facebook..... Just to let everyone know my wee mummy is back with us, she has 100% of her memory back from before she went into hospital, the last 2 months which as she put it was like being in a dream. She is getting stronger each day and fingers crossed will be coming home in the coming days, it's a miracle!!!!!! This is a wake up call, do not take anyone for granted and don't put things off until tomorrow. My mum has been given a second chance at life and she intends to take it by the scruff of the neck. I'm blessed that I'm going to have more quality time with her along with the rest of the family. I want to thank everyone for their support over the past few months, especially my beautiful wife, it has been greatly appreciated.
