Thanks, the reason I asked,  was because it reminded me of the old days.  When some people used to post huge multi-coloured multi-scrolling-page images.  Which got rightly banned by eBay, as they took up too much space. And were extremely annoying to everyone except their creators.

So I thought that possibly, these present-day unnecessary multi-coloured fonts, and big letters, might be a kind of yearning throwback?

Well now, if you're talking about the "old days", you'll remember the absolutely enormous gifs some people used as sigs which were, as you rightly say extremely annoying and took up huge amounts of space especially as some of the users only managed "lol", "roflmao" "yhm" and many other forum acronyms as their comments which, when used multiple times by the same people totally disrupted a thread.

Some of the gifs were true works of art but shouldn't have been used as sigs for the reasons above.

The current use of fonts, sizes and colours are only expressions of individuality or as a reflection of the comment, otherwise the colours on this thread are often relevant to the word or meaning of the word.

Sadly I can't do colours or smilies on my phone. it is only one word after all. So it can brighten things up a bit.

There are umpteen forums "out there" which are totally featureless either because the forum hosts keep it that way to save space or when they're set up by users, they don't know how to add or implement a graphical user interface.

As Ed says, it brightens things up a bit..... mrcool
