I think people will say oh it's because he's old & the stress of the trial etc, but to my mind he didn't consider his victims age or stress.
Not just in this case but also other crimes, if you are given say 5yrs as a sentence then that is what you should serve,

I would have thought he would have got at least 10 years,,, im really shocked about this. Im still just shocked and saddened as he was a celebrity i really liked. Weird,,,, my brother in Australia saw him sitting in the seats in front at a cricket match. He ran down and asked him for his autograph for his sister (me) in England, and he scribbled on a newspaper. I treasured this until over the years i lost it somewhere,,,never to be seen again. Or it got thrown with the rubbish. SPOOKY!!!!!

Although I agree with a lot of what you say, especially on the point that they should have complained at the time of the alleged offence, correct me if I'm wrong VS has for some years alluded to the fact an assault from a so called celebrity had taken place but never named him. This however doesn't excuse her behaviour on jumping on the bandwagon.

I can understand there may be those who were scared to come forward before the trial, after all the accused may not be found guilty, but afterwards they want to get it off their chest now they feel safer.

 

However I don't think I would put such as Vanessa Feltz in that category, hardly a shrinking violet.

Yes thanks CD! I thought I'd remembered her saying she had been assaulted years ago, & far from being silent & jumping on the bandwagon as I said earlier she had reported it at the time so for that I apologise unreservedly !.
It matters not that she is no shrinking violet, she did the right thing in reporting him!.

She wrote about it but didn't name him at the time nor does she appear to have informed the police early enough for her evidence to be used.

 

She wrote about it five months before the allegations became public.

I truly believe its just FEAR that prevents people from coming forward,,, pure and simple!. Then when others speak they will follow and speak up. Some people are like this. They have not got the courage to be the first to speak up and tell someone. i know it says above that vanessa did though, but did not name anyone.

I believe that many of us have been assaulted in one way or another to a lesser degree than what has gone on in these trials most of us deal with it by withering words or a nicely aimed kick & also by threatening to reveal to the low life's spouse what has gone on. Never thinking that these people are doing it to others, we think it's our problem alone.& I think that is the problem we don't want to be thought of as trouble makers. Even when you retaliate the tirade of personal abuse from the petulant perpetrator can be just as bad as the actual assault!.so yes I can see your point Rose.

The thought that you could speak out, your complaint then not going anywhere and that you might be reviled or ostracised because of that complaint, can act as a powerful disincentive.

I do wonder how many of these 'victims' would have come forward at all, at any time, if Mr Harris was just an 84 year old unknown senior citizen, living in a council care home without a penny to his name.

I think with respect that they have but because of the very scathing reasons you pointed out it's not big headline news!.
