The ebay excuse is all very well, but I think the obvious solution would have been....
Update the users weeks in advance!
After all they did with the free listing fees, to the point where even a TV advert is in use.
Very strange how the security has become an issue overnight!!!
Makes total sense I suppose, as they still cannot get the message layout back to a sensible one. We have no chance with the security, so just stop the users, security solved!

EBay mobile app started working again on my iPhone X using iOS 16.0 yesterday, but stopped working again today and now it’s gone back into the same update loop asking for iOS 17 as minimum?
This is very odd of eBay, utterly ridiculous that you can’t using the mobile app below iOS 17, which would mean an iPhone 12 as minimum or a later generation iPad etc. It loses tens of thousands of customers who can’t afford to update their devices and essentially they should not have to just to use the mobile app. Customer supports answer is to update your device or use a browser. Shocking attitude. The browser is way too slow and it’s upload and download speed is very dependent on your WiFi signal, cable, location, how tabs you have open and whether your cache and cookies have been deleted or not! It also takes ages to sign in every time. I have been using eBay for over 20 years and have an iPhone X and use a number of iPads, but none of them are compatible with iOS 17.O. Not prepared to buy a new device/s so I can use eBay and even if I did I wouldn’t out of principle give them the satisfaction of me buying a device on eBay. Would prefer to buy off Amazon or Vinted. They don’t seem to have a problem with older devices?
All users need to inundate customer services with complaints and even send endless emails complaining to the CEO at eBay email address: jiannone@ebay.com .

I have Android 9 a galaxy S10 +.. and I am NOT changing my phone cause Ebay changed. I'll cancel my 16 year account with them. Their loss not mine.

There does seem to be a workaround for this updating loop on the mobile app. I use an iPad mini 4 operating on iOS 15. This workaround has worked for a number of users. Here’s what you do:
Open the eBay mobile app, sign in and wait till the OVO up window appears saying update required. Now open your browser and sign in to ebay. For some people a small banner is at the top of the page advertising the ebay mobile app with a blue button at the far left saying open. Press this button and your device should default back to and open up your mobile app and the pop up window should disappear. For me this banner doesn’t appear unless you press your ebay link or the bell icon and then slide your finger slowly toward the search bar and the banner appears. I had to try this several times until the banner appeared and then pressed open and hey presto, the pop up window disappeared in the mobile app and now the app works again. I also went into the settings, went to App Store icon and switched off auto updates to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. If your persist with this method it does work.
so, this tells us that this pop up window may be a glitch with the present update rather than a deliberate update to iOS only. If this is the case then ebay customer support should have given notice to users that this is the case rather than just ignore them and tell them to update their devices. Anyway, how long this workaround lasts time will tell. GOOD LUCK,

This workaround may also work for older than iOS and other Android devices. Give it a go.

Where it says OVO, this is a typo auto correct. It should say Pop up.

I think I may have a solution to this problem.
If you’re buying or selling on eBay, you will no doubt get emails from them containing a link to the item you’re buying or selling.
When you do get an email with the link to your item, click on the item link and it will take you to your item.
As the eBay page opens, you will see the annoying message, ‘Update Required’
DO NOT click ‘EXIT’ button with the ‘Update’ box, but simply go back to your email message and click the same item link and you should be taken to your eBay item minus the ‘Update Required’ message.
It’s not a permanent fix, but it should give you access to the app.
Good luck !

eBay just made my iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 and GOME S7 (Android 7) obsolete overnight since 5 February 2025. Using a browser doesn't help because I get the same circular 'UPDATE' notice but I can't update. eBay clearly doesn't care. It's just following the greedy phone manufacturers. Otherwise the phones would last for decades which is bad for business. It'll soon be the same for cars in a few years with electric only.

Delete the app and use a browser to reach ebay.co.uk and that message will no longer appear.
Alternatively you can tap and hold an eBay browser link that is opening in the (nonworking) iOS version of the app automatically and choose "do not open in the app".

Then maybe they should come see what a mess they have made.
disgusting way to treat its users by excluding more than half of them.
