I am running Ios 16.7.2 on an iphone 11 pro, and had the same message.
''Update'', then the app store will not allow unless older version. That will not work.
Solution - Delete the current app - then go to app store and download as you normally would.
This should get you working again.

Ditto.
I'm running iOS 15.8.3 on my iPhone 7 and as of today [4 Feb 2025] my eBay app flags up an "Update required" dialogue with "Exit" and "Update" as the only options…
I want to be able to access eBay so – of course – I click "Update" which sends me into a loop of the App Store>Open>eBay>"Update required", as before…
Someone [I suspect at eBay development] has *bleep*ed up royally – credits also to whoever passed this at the App Store.
Bottom line – is this going to be fixed [by whoever] or do I have to buy a new iPhone and update the OS to access eBay ?

This does not work.

According to a post on the UK community boards, the latest version of the eBay app requires Android 10 or later, or iOS 17 or later.
If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.
If eBay browser links are opening in the Android version of the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app". iOS users can tap and hold an eBay browser link and choose "Don't open in the app".

For all the users that say the update is not working or cannot download, I hope you are adding a comment on the Appstore?
Let Ebay really know waht a bunch of clowns they are.

Same here, I have android 9 and app keeps sending me around in a loop to update but can't be updated. Play store says it is compatible, so somebody has been messing with the app at eBay and they are not telling us.
Left the app alone and now signed in on same phone using Firefox, working ok so far.

"There are things that can prevent you from getting the latest eBay app version -- such as using an old operating system, having old versions of Google Play Services or Google Play store if you use an Android device, or if a previous installation or update did not install cleanly.
Try using a browser to view your offer in the mean time."
NOT a "useful comment" …
As an iOS 15.8.3 user on iPhone, the suggestion that I use an outdated Google Play installation is not helpful.
Android users may differ, BUT –
…More useful might be for eBay developers to get their act together and implement updates that are cross-platform back-compatible updates that don't terminally *bleep* their users off …

Uninstalled mine, let them sort it out, if they don't that one less customer

~~~ WORTH CHECKING IF YOUR DEVICE CAN UPDATE TO ANDROID 10 ~~~
I didn't think that my old Android device could update to Android 10 but having gone to Settings > Device > Updates it has resulted in having Android 10. The update didn't mention Android 10, it just did it.
Anyway, the upshot of it is that the eBay app now works again. For the time being.
It's still poor form on eBay's part. They should really let us all know when they're making changes like this. After all, it will move to Android 11 at some point! I'm kicking the can down the road!
For those running Apple ios, you might find if you have 2 devices linked, the newer version on the other/s devices might have to be deleted also first. I had to do that to get the older ipad to work.
Obviously try and update your device to the latest firmware also.
One other point, Browsers are working fine, so you can at least go there and remove all the items you have listed on ebay and upload to another online store!!!
Good old Ebay strike again, well done for being consistant in the past few weeks for messing things up. I thought the children had gone back to school, but obviously the imbeciles are still around!
As an iOS 15.8.3 user on iPhone, the suggestion that I use an outdated Google Play installation is not helpful.
No one suggested that you, as an iOS user, should try using an Android version of the app.
The six month old reply you chose to respond to now listed one possible reason why a user might not have the latest version of the app installed and might not be aware of that.
Using a browser might still be helpful, though.
