Any frank and honest discussion on any such topic just gets reported until it's blue in the face. A few folk get banned for a month or so and meanwhile, they find an easier place to post.
It's a shame it has to be that way, Stevie
I do get the feeling that there is an awful lot of long-standing feuds and animosity between some posters on here.
I haven't been posting on RT long enough to know why this is so, or how these feuds even started (maybe that is why I am brave stupid enough to be having this discussion LOL) but it does seem like a catch 22 situation to me.
Maybe if all of the posters involved were to try and resolve their differences, then this would also solve the over-moderation issue?
BTW I'm just generalising here, not pointing fingers at any one poster or group of posters.

Maybe the feuds have gone on so long now that it is no longer possible to resolve them?
In that case, maybe eBay should just scrap the Round Table altogether and possibly the After Hours board and merge the two into one brand NEW social board where there are no old timers with their ancient old grudges to bear LOL
This would give everyone a fresh start, on a new board where everyone would be a new poster?

Lola ..... Let me try to put this as simply as I can. You never know, some people may actually read it and have a little think about their actions.
Going back maybe 6 years or so, the posters on the RT were a much happier bunch. Then, over the course of 3 months or so, the word, "Troll" came into recognition. Just to give you an insight into the situation, from my joining the forum in March of 2001until 17/12/2008 I was totally slapless. From that date unto this, I have been slapped 146 times with 8 separate bans ranging from 3 days to 2 weeks. (Yes, I have records of every slap and the consequence of it)
I haven't changed. Nor has my language. So what has caused the changed state of affairs?
Let's look at facts for a moment. If I get a slap, the rules dictate that I should not be able to find out the ID of the person doing the actual reporting. But having said that, some folk that get reported claim to know the ID responsible. Because they "KNOW", they deem it to be their God given Right to try to wreck the enjoyment of the forum by other people.
Add that to eBay's ineffectuality when it comes to dealing with re-registering offenders, what chance do we have?

Stevie do you think that things might start to improve now that we have a new CM and now that the boards are no longer being moderated by Live World... or is that a stupid question?
I went through a phase of getting quite a few slaps (not on this board) for the most ridiculous things and so I stopped posting for a while.
Since I've started posting again recently, I've only had one slap and that one, I grudgingly have to admit was kind of desverved.

Lola/Steve,100% right about the Trolls and the bother they cause, but there are also posters on here who are never wrong, always right.their opinion is the only opinion. They as much as the Trolls are keeping people away.

Lola asked ..... "Stevie do you think that things might start to improve now that we have a new CM and now that the boards are no longer being moderated by Live World... or is that a stupid question?"
Not a stupid question at all. The only snag is that until you leave it to run for a while, It's just impossible to say.
We can but hope.

I do know what you mean, Charlie but it's a difficult one because in all fairness, a board like this does need someone who is willing to play devils advocate, someone who isn't afraid to throw some controversial and strongly opposing views into the mix... just to get a good debate going.
Problems arise though if the DAs start to become a bit too overpowering and don't allow others, who are perhaps not quite as articulate as them, to have their say without making them feel as if their opinions are being belittled or disparaged.
I don't know what the answer is but seething in silence won't change anything so I guess the only solution would be to tell the old windbags to put a sock in it for 5 minutes LOL ...or just ignore them altogether if they are being rude or insulting.

Oh and BTW anyone can feel free to tell me to put a sock in it aswell if they want to *cough*

True Charlie, true. I can think of at least one, although I don't assume for one moment that their conscience has been pricked, because it wouldn't occur to them who I meant.

Exactly.... when a Tea Roll eventually does get banned it simply re-registers under another name.

I think you will find that the trouble makers are probably in the majority by now.
Well they will be when they come out the pub.

Yes your both right IMO.
When you get time go back to boards 10 to 13 and look at all those strange names that where never heard of before, and haven't been heard of since. And you will also see if you read the veiws on some topics that virtually the whole of some threads are taken up by them.
That happened about 6 weeks ago. Just pointed that out because I thought I was looking at the wrong site at the time.
See you.
