It just shows how bent the government is.

The story is about Jimmy Carr's Tax dealings,
Basically it say that Jimmy Carr gets lambadted for a K2 scheme that he apologised after finding it was iffy. He immediately told HMRC who said it was legal. He then gets it all reported in the press and on television by the PM.
But, on the other hand, 3 members of Take That are not being charged for the same thing. We also find that one is being given a OBE (or something) in the Honours list. He's allowed to keep that. The difference i that they pay a few quid into the Consevative coffers.
What a rag-bag situation our government is in.
Just read the full story and be shocked.

How many of us, if asked "do you legally want to pay less tax", by a bona fide established Accountant, would not take their professional advice.
After all, that is what Accountants are employed for. To manage finances, legally, responsibly AND to legally, and responsibly ensure their Clients save paying more money then they need to.
No laws broken, no intention to decieve, just the normal desire to hold on to as much of your money as possible.
Good Post Steve.

Seems like a big Non-Story to me.

The only two things, in this life, that we have absolutely NO say in ( as was famously quoted ) are Death & Taxes. Most people work 1 hour in every four, for the Government and therefore for the State; to provide for the infrastructure of the society in which they live. Many do that, while doing jobs they really don't like that much and it's no wonder that they get annoyed; when others can get out of having to do it. It can be even more annoying, when the process of avoidance seems random; to the extent of it being who you know and can afford to employ, rather than it being fairly apportioned.

If instead of working one hour in four for the state you are working more than half your time for the government it becomes financially worthwhile to look for ways of reducing your tax liability.

Yes it's not as though those avoiding certain taxes are paying nothing, they pay a lot more than the average man in the street! And as I hear someone say "and so they should" I say "yes, and they do!".

The only fault is that of the loopholes which allow certain practices; in my opinion!
