Wasn’t sure what to put this under, I am someone who takes things literally. But I’m so weary of seeing day after day (not changing at all) “15 people want or are watching this”, along with “one person has it in their basket”.
Why is this allowed?

Ebay is the one who puts it there, why does it bother you? Just ignore it.

It’ll b based over a particular time frame. Or it could genuinely be 15 people have that item in their basket.
its marketing at the end of the day. It won’t be a lie, at worst a bending of semantics.
as above I wouldn’t get worked up over it.

I do sometimes "put in my basket" saved later, cos price changes (especially cards in my case). It's a normal thing people thinking about "oh I really need this BUT" or "hmm it's okay I put in my basket BUT" or "I just watched this item maybe have some discounts later" etc.Every people is different 🙂 Following papso22 comment "just ignore it".

If this really bothers you, most ad blockers have an option to manually block elements on a web page. I've just experimented with this and you can select the messages you describe for blocking in AdBlock Plus.
Be careful, though, as this may unintentionally block messages which you do find useful...
