London Underground drivers strike today.

And often at Christmas Man Wink remember?

Hardly a strenuous job really is it? They are in a very, very well paid job at around £45,000 a year. I thought they were aware that full automation was a threat to their jobs, so why not behave themselves and think of the public that pay their wages for once?

All they do is moan, moan, moan. What is deeply shameful is only the union members get to hold millions of people to ransom because they did not like the way they were spoken to in a disciplinary meeting. (is that OUR fault?).

Services on the Central and Waterloo & City lines, used by almost a million passengers a day, will be severely  disrupted today.

The Victoria line on London's Underground already has Automatic Train Operation in which the train moves and stops automatically. The union successfully argued that there needed to be someone in the cab to 'reassure the public'. I seem to remember an incident ( not widely reported to keep the public reassured ) in which the man in the cab got out to investigate something and the train went off without him.

Can you imagine what state the Roads would be in, if the driving test involved just a stop and go pedal and paying attention to what colour the traffic lights were...........and for £48,000 + per year. London Bus drivers get about £18,000 + per year and they don't run on rails, they've got pedestrians stepping out in front of them; cars pulling out in front of them ,cutting them up and parking in places that sometimes make it impossible to get the Bus through. Some people ( more it seems each day ) just make me sick !

What's the relevancy of how much the drivers are paid or the introduction of automation? - the strike is over neither of these issues!

And of course, the reasons unions give for coming out on strike; are not to make it more palatable to the public by any chance. There are no underlying, convoluted reasons, which would actually require reading between the lines..........but then you'd know wouldn't you...........why does that not surprise me.

London Underground drivers strike today.

People living outside of London are once again glued to their TV screens, after the eagerly anticipated return of the comedy show ‘Tube Strike’.

Footage of forlorn, frustrated commuters has proved a massive hit around the UK, with people sick of hearing about how great London is all the blerdy time.

“Seeing Londoners crammed onto buses and having meltdowns outside closed tube stations makes for must-see TV,” said one man from Grantham, Lincolnshire. “I just hope they don’t leave it so long between series next time. It feels like a bigger wait than for new Sherlock.”

“I’m already looking forward to next week’s episode,” said another fan from Matlock, Derbyshire.

“And hopefully the show will run on into the summer this time, when the constant inconvenience coupled with boiling temperatures will really get to commuters!”

Are the underground drivers getting paid too much or are the bus drivers getting paid too little? It's expensive to live these days.

Yes, EVO.  That's partly why I started this thread.  And they said their management are treating them badly and bullying them Smiley Wink .... Smiley LOL

How badly are the Bus drivers, Nurses and others with even less than half of the wages the tube drivers are getting being treated?

#2, Yes, LINDA. But it is inevitable that full automation will come.  And so it should if it stops us being held to ransom. So many in most cases only wanted to get to and from work?  How daft is it to aggravate their wage payers over and over again?  Christmas after Christmas too was partly how they got to this wage if I remember rightly?

Do you ever think someone is watching and waiting the whole time?  I do ..... Man Wink........:Man LOL

It sounds like your bus drivers and nurses need better unions.

Yes, I agree with you, automation should and will come. My point is that technically we're closer to that point than some people realise

Am I missing something here - I know I'm getting old but when a union supports its members in a strike over one issue and publicises it as such what are the reasons for doing so if the strike is 'really' about pay?  Apparently you know!

Do Londoners know the rest of the country are in hysterics, every time they go into revolt over something that affects their poor little cosseted lives.

welcome to the REAL world, where public transport is all but nonexistent

last strike there was a guy outside an Oxford street station (east end of) moaning about waiting 20 mins for the gates to open, He was going to Bank about a 7 or 8 minute walk away
