It's that time of year again.

What time's that you say?

It's a one word answer. Gritters!

Message from the local Council this evening:-

"It’s getting colder and our gritters will be out on the high routes at 9pm for the first time tonight."

I know I say it every year, but why oh why do they do it? Before Christmas, you only have to whisper the word FROST and the gritters are out. If there's any snow, where are they? They wait until the snow's hard packed and then they try to shift it.

Yes, they'll be up and down, back and to on the dual carriageways but on the roads people use to get to those main routes, there's very little gritting done until the roads are in a nightmare mess.

After Christmas they're also missing. Missing that is until late February/March and then they're plastering the roads like there's no tomorrow because they've got loads of unused grit!

It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.
