Hello Petal and Bunny - that's a very good question. You'll already be aware that the lungs are made of a rubbery material (much like a condom, if you will) and we believe that, similar to flames generated during conjunctivitis, heat can cause a rupture of the lung leading to accidental children. For that reason most surgeons rely on safety matches as a backup - these, such as Ship brand or Cooks Matches can be got from an online retailer for less than £2 for 10 boxes.

Sorry Bidicus - hi to you. I missed your post because of researching the answer to Bunny's question

Hang on Petal! Has that wuman been at my whursky? But Bidicus is so right - without research we never would have cured compos mentis . . .

Thank you for the explanation Lefty. I shall invest in some safety matches pronto. Better to be safe than sorry.

Knew I'd get you eventually, axe or no axe.

Very prudent Bunny, it's easy to lose one's way and end up in the colonies . . .
However, I need to get off for sleeping purposes . . . sleep well all.

Have a comfortable crampless sleep Lefty.

Hello to one, hello to all...
I can't answer for everyone, CD, but for me it depends on the picture... I can slap an easy one together in a couple of minutes if all I'm doing is taking an otherwise unaltered background pic and slapping a couple of already done cut-out characters on it... maybe adding a speech bubble or two.
It can take 10 minutes to half an hour for something more complicated like major changes to the background or cutting out or altering new characters.
A complicated animation can take hours or days... they aren't my favorite because I'm too lazy to really do them right.
These are my answers, anyway... others may have something different to say.

Good afternoon Gif Thread . . .
Just as Bidicus said, CD - when I'm trying something complicated, I can lose track of time, but I'll sometimes spend hours. I've got several pics that are maybe half finished that I'll leave for ages until something clicks (in my mind that is) or something happens that makes them suitable. This took about a minute . . .

And so did this . . . and your question made it woth posting hahaha

When I had a scanner, I could spend ages on a drawing to get it just how I wanted it and the animation could be just a few minutes. Now I'm tring to get to grips with drawing with the mouse in PSP and that's very hard for me but I enjoy the challenge. Here's an old animation from the scanner days . . .

All the above for me too CD. Animations can take hours, manipulating images and ending up with many layers and frames.
