Does air quality affect you?

Do you suffer from COPD or asthma? Do you know how many people do and why our hospitals are having to respond to an increasing number of patients struggling to Breathe.

Greenpeace do and have been up to their usual antics today in an effort to bring the issue to our attention. Couple of pics show Queen Victoria and The Duke of Wellington adorned with masks and are taken from the BBC news site. Amusing yet it's sad this is the kind of action needed to get the authorities to do something. I have just returned from a couple of nights in Edinburgh, the air was horrible despite the proximity to the coast, crossing a platform bridge at Waverley Station I was treated to a full blast of fumes from a diesel engine, not pleasant. most older buildings are covered in black soot and we too breathe that stuff in. So any ideas what can be done to reverse this or will we soon return to the bad old days of smog albeit less visible.

Re: Does air quality affect you?

I suffer from COPD as a result of 40 years + of smoking (my own stupid fault but I am vaping now and getting better).

I am 56 years old and 4 years ago when I smoked and was diagnosed I had a lung age of 83.

In January - after 4 years of vaping - I had my annual checkup and my lung age is now 65.

The dust, pollutants, vehicle emissions etc. do not seem to make a difference to my COPD but give me a cold, damp morning and it is all I can do to get my inhalers inside me.

The killer for me (and others I know in my situation) seems to be damp.  Everything else is either tolerable or makes no difference.

Re: Does air quality affect you?

Thanks Soppy, interesting take, I was hoping we might get Agee more views on this as there are many suffering these days. I agree with you on damp being a contributor along with mould spores which are not always easy to see.
On the subject of smoking I saw a guy on Saturday smoking a pipe, the smell was wonderful, but I guess he too is on the slippery slope.

Re: Does air quality affect you?

Years since I was there, you do know Redcar isn't TynesideWoman LOL

Nice place though, as far as I remember.

Further out to Whitby is a nice place to visit.

Re: Does air quality affect you?

Yes Whitby is nice, great fish and chip shop.
Must admit to thinking Redcar was on Tyneside is it classed as wearside perhaps?
