Do we need the annual switch to Summer time and the Autumnal switch back to GMT any more?
Would we be be any worse off to stick with GMT all year round?
The World's timekeeping revolves around UCT which is really GMT so why bother these days with "Summer Time"?
I see Russia has decided not to have Summer time next year.
What your view on the time situation?

We change to 'summer time' and back again so that children don't go to school in the dark.
Introducing 'summer time' saved loads of lives.

Is there any conclusive, definitive proof of that?
There'd need to be a period (in modern times) when BST wasn't in operation.

What do you call 'modern times'?
Have a read here, it explains why we change the clocks:-

Yes, we know all that old stuff but there's nothing conclusive or definitive in modern times where there's street lights everywhere and modern cars have better lighting.
Clock changes can't take account of recklessness or stupidity.

I'll ask again.
What do you call 'modern times'?

Obvious isn't it? Within the last 10 years or so.

50% of Russia is the same latitude as the UK or South of the UK.

Don't forget to put your clock back

That Wiki link doesn't give the reason BST was brought in --
BST was started by a health nut (Mr Willett), who wanted to see everyone in the parks exercising for an extra hour in the evenings - nothing to do with safety etc
-------------------
I'd happily stay with GMT all year
2 Firms I've worked for had their Office staff start one hour earlier during BST, because they dealt with Europe
Of course loads along the South coast want an extra hour added to BST, to get another hour of business during Holiday season evenings.
-------------------------
"Darkness in the Evenings is dangerous for children" - what children ?
Most of them are stuck in their rooms on their computers or games systems, not outside 'playoing on the streets'

'BST saves energy so I think a good enough reason to keep it.

Most decisions Russians make, tend to come back and bite them in the ****; so doing the opposite, is a fairly safe bet I'd say.

Ha ha, most times. you'd be right following that.
However, mucking about with the clocks should be consigned to the past.

I really can't imagine it any other way, TBH.
I am sure it was managed quite well before the idea ever became common place but I would quite happily carry on as we are as it makes sense to save energy, stay safe etc.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.......

And most of the dear little darlings are ferried to and from school in their mummy or daddie's four by fours.
A ridiculous and nonsensical bi-annual tradition serving no useful purpose whatsoever, and one that ought to be abolished forthwith.

I'd vote for permanent BST
Putting clocks forward during winter to an hour ahead of GMT could save almost 500,000 tonnes of CO2.

And reduce household electricity bills
Plus other benefits ...financial
and health

Not so good for Scotland perhaps. Had there been a Yes vote for independence they could have had their own time zone.

I don't ask for much, can't they just tilt the Earth a bit to the left ( or is it right..........oh well, they'll know that ); so that it stays light and about 75 Degs. F. from 7.30 am to 9 pm from 1st June to 1st October and then I'd just have to put a Jumper on for the rest of the Year.
