What's youir opinion on the controversy surrounding that poor lad?

Mine? All things considered, they should allow him to die. His brain's not develpoed so he won't be able to sustain life without life support so there's no prospect of any sort of "life".

I think the parents did want to take him home to die, but GOSH refused this.
Makes you wonder why GOSH are so adamant that Charlie remain and die under their roof. Is there another agenda going on.
It was suggested in another forum, that GOSH had been offered a large sum of money by some pharmaceutical company for his unusual brain stem.

As Charlie is terminally ill, what will happen when he does die?
Will the parents be allowed to take him away to be buried, or will GOSH fight that too.

That is a good question, if the hospital is so adamant the poor child has to be left to die, why are they so worried and controlling over the place he dies, be that in GOSH or at home or even in America what difference does it make?

Has anyone thought that as soon as his life support systems are turned off, he might die straight away?

If those things are keeping him alive, do the parents think they can all be transported to his home to be switched off there?

The logistics of taking him home has probably been explained to the parents, but all we read is, Parents said this, hospital said No.

All we can go by is what we see in news reports, either paper press who want to sell newspapers, or online press who want clicks on adverts.

So all we get is sensationalised headlines or click bait.

Sometimes, depending if there are still just enough brain activity, vital functions do carry on. It all depends on each individual patient from then on, how long.

Most commonly after turning all off the patients respirations will slow, Oxygen saturations will drop and then the heart rate will drop. But of course the time for this to happen varies from patient to patient depending on the state of their vital functions.

Many though do pass away relatively fast once the life support is turned off.

One patient was taken off the ventilator, yet carried on breathing for over 3 days - The family arranged for their loved one to be taken home. The only medication then that was given were pain killers and regular maintenance medication.

Why not, they seem more than happy to spend a fortune on legal fees to deny the parents some rights?

May he rest in peace with the angels.

And may the press leave his parents alone to grieve and put their lives back together (fat chance!).

Quote:-

"Lord Robert Winston, Professor of Science and Society at Imperial College London, told Sky News that GOSH staff have just as much knowledge of Charlie's condition as other doctors across the world.

He said: "I have looked up Dr Hirano and what he has written - the fact of the matter is that they have not published details which show that they clearly could have changed this boy's life and the prognosis of the disease.

"I have to say it was rather wicked to give the parents the idea that somehow had this baby been treated earlier it would have made a difference."

Thankfully it took a very short while for the little chap to fall asleep in death. At least he now wont suffer any more and his parents can mourn and return back to some kind of normality. What a horrible experience they have all had to endure. They are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thankfully I know there is a hope for that poor family, I hope that they can find it and believe in it. Xx Rest in peace little Charlie. Xx

The question now is, will the parents be permitted to take their son's body intact for burial, or will hospital want to remove his brain for research or for sale to highest bidder?

Haven't the UK Tory press and media (incl BBC) went full bore on this story, in the last two weeks

Anyone would think they wanted to keep other stuff OFF the front pages and our TV screens

(e.g. Sky News yesterday, it took up about 20mins of every hour)

Like the Brexit infighting, the state of the economy etc etc
