People exchange their civil liberties for false promises of convenience, not realizing how valuable they were until they are missed.

Loved Boris Johnson's reply to ID cards, he said.. "  I'll never have one, and will go an live in a wigwam with my family on Exmor if I have to.  I don't want the authorities to know how much cheese and wine I buy "......

..... and there lies the issue,   access to everything about you!  Big Brother has never been closer.

One question:

How will the Government verify the identity of someone applying for an Identity Card?

Just wondered...

People who were born here and lived here all their lives shouldn't need identity cards.

Just another way to keep checks on us.

Digital ID cards will be a dream target for criminal hackers. Big time. Big scale.

Do you trust any government to set it up properly? Do you trust them to keep your info secure?

As I'm hanging around hoping for some words of wisdom elsewhere, here's another thought.

The infamous track and trace app for Covid allegedly cost around £35m - although it is unclear how much of the overall £35billion for the test and trace was used and how much it would have gone on to cost if Covid had got worse.

I do not believe the track and trace part was ever shown to be that successful or worth the expenditure, and I've not seen any figures to justify the amount spent on testing.

The estimated figure to set up and run a Digital Identity Scheme would be approximately £140–£400 million (set up) and around £5–£10 million (annual running costs), according to a think tank called Labour Together and of course it will be outsourced - almost certainly to the US.

Given the recent findings on the Mone debacle, I do not believe that any Government can control these kinds of developments and expenditures to avoid corruption and wild overspending.

Given that Labour are trying to justify ripping support from the most vulnerable in society, I feel it is morally and fiscally bankrupt to be deciding to waste so much money on something which is touted as being the way to:

  • curb the prospect of work for illegal migrants, a significant factor driving small boat crossings, and
  • will also make it easier for the public to access the services they are entitled to

Also, I believe they will run into problems by demanding that the ID will be held on people's mobile phones and if they do not own a smart phone with internet access, then that person will not be allowed to work.

It is not just a total removal of our privacy and civil liberties, it is forcing people to have to own items by law and it is the poorest and most vulnerable who will be at risk and penalised.

I have already run into this problem with parts of the NHS which have been outsourced to private companies and it is really frightening.

Back to my query watching.

It would be helpful if you'd outline just what problem you've experienced with the NHS and how anyone else might cope with it or avoid it.

The new systems they have in place - so if you need a referal for something like arthritis, now you have to go through a FCP (first contact point, I think) who is supposed to be a physiotherapist, who does a pretty lousy triage (I've had this twice now), who then decides if they're going to send you for x-rays and refer you up the chain or just give you exercises by watching a US youtube (no physical assessment whatsoever) and then, you have to have a smart phone with which to access the internet so they can send you a link for everything else including filling in online forms.

It does not matter that I keep telling everyone I cannot access the internet on my phone - I need an email with the links - nope, now I have to do it by mobile phone or else.......... (this is a new one which I've just encountered yesterday).

This is not going to happen, not in the least because I can't see things on a phone - I need a decent sized screen.

Need an urgent same-day GP appt because you're very unwell, in pain, living alone, disabled, elderly - still you WILL fill out a lengthy online form which asks for information that is already on your medical notes, but means the triage person doesn't have to bother looking it all up so they can give conflicting 'advice' to a previous GP or even treatment that is totally wrong.  If you don't complete the form, you cannot have an appointment!

The physio company, along with the cataract removal company and now our X-ray department at the local hosp are all outsourced / owned by overseas investors.

I have no idea how this is going to play out for anyone.

ID cards are another way of controlling the masses,

They gave it a good practice with lockdown 5 years ago when we were all told to stay here, don't go there, don't go to work, wear a mask if you go to the toilet in a restaurant, remove it when you sit down again, use the nearest door to enter a public building and another one to exit that takes you all around the circumference of the building (just to make sure the germs were spread everywhere)

With ID cards the Government would have complete access to all your business. Like Boris says, how much you drink, eat, how much you give to charity, or not, what your hobbies are and what clubs you join, how many operations you've had and where on the political spectrum you are,

This will lead to a social credit system. ie: you collect credit points for everything you do which they consider "Good", and lose credit for the "bad" things you do., as is already happening in countries like China.

Having "Bad credit" will affect your ability to access the NHS, jobhunting, to travel and visit places you want to go to, and more.

If you think I'm completely mad bookmark this post and come back to it in a few years' time and see.

Congrats on being awake, theres more awake than you think, we're just not as voiciferous as the 'commies' lol.Let's not forget the WEF,the Kalergi plan and so on,how many times do folk freely give away information when there's a nice little reward, tell those same folk to do things without 'treats' and there would be uproar.

How many freely gave away their details on whether they'd had the jab or not,i can remember when anyone asked about my medical details they were told to mind their own business...i still do,

I also seem to remember TRIAGE widely used throughout the NHS was something used in disaster situations?.

See how many use the self serve checkouts and embrace the cashless shops, lemmings come to mind.

Many conspiracy theories long ago have become predictions...next step AI taking even more jobs and yet the sheep keep running through the turnstiles.

As you mentioned you will be judged also for your political beliefs, religion, hobbies, friends blah blah, next the GLOBAL ID CARD DATABASE...have we done the 15 min cities yet?

We're in a 3rd world war without a shot being fired....

Just a thought would AI if it finally became self aware, would it tell you?.

My phone is a dumb cheap £30 one with no internet access and properly disabled GPS,my dna has not been made available although they're now on about DNA mapping every newborn ,all in the good interests of the people,

As regards cctv if your fashion taste allows wear a peaked cap or shades maybe not a balaclava lol, then again some items of clothing may as well be..and try not to tempted by the internet based domestic cctv systems for home use,

The individual targeted advertising is also just on the horizon, where you will walk into a store and screens will process your shopping habits, tastes and present temptations tailored just for you either on your phone or screens above aisles..Money and Power always the same culprits.

Beware those who shoot you down they're part of the problem.Acceptance is defeat.

It's not an ID card in itself which is the problem.  You can get a Citizen Card which is an official UK ID and proof of age card recognised as such by the Home Office and almost all UK retailers and public transport providers including UK airlines.

what-is-a-citizencard

The problems with this plan are:

a) what it's going to be used for,

b) how they will force everyone to own a smartphone

c) the inability of any Govt to ensure that people keep their smartphones vigorously protected from hacking

d) the costs not just of set-up but to run for eternity

They could take that money and use it to pay for more staff in border security, immigration control, policing of human trafficking etc and they'd be creating more jobs, more people paying taxes back into the public finances and have a much better outcome for the UK.

And another point: Once everyone has an ID card (Which hopefully will never happen) and everyone's ID has been hacked, how will you prove it is yours? Would we all have to have a second ID car to back the other one up?
